November is here—time for turkey, football and the much anticipated holiday shopping season. Though many grandparents find joy in buying goodies for their grandchildren, it can sometimes be a hassle figuring out exactly what they want. Here's a list to help guide your purchasing decisions this Christmas.
FOR THE TODDLERS
The youngest of the grandkids are probably the easiest to shop for. After all, they can’t really complain about what you bought them. However, some toys that might peek their interests are Pillow Pets®, Let’s Rock Elmo® and Sing-A-Ma-Jigs®. Pillow Pets® are stuffed animals that can easily transform into a cozy pillow. These guys are great kid companions for anytime of year, and with prices ranging from $15.99 for the peewee version to $19.99 for the original version, they are also pretty affordable. Let’s Rock Elmo® is the season’s most anticipated toy, following in the footsteps of last year’s Dance Star Mickey®. This mechanical gadget allows kids to sing and play along with the famous Sesame Street character, all for about $60.
Sing-A-Ma-Jigs® are the cool new stuffed animals from Mattel. Squeeze their bellies and you’ll either be serenaded with a sweet harmony or become immersed in a kid-friendly conversation. The average price for one of these crazy critters is $13, making it the cheapest of the three toddler toys mentioned.
FOR THE IN-BETWEENERS
For all the grandkids that are too old for ‘toys’ but too young for iPads®, some interesting Christmas gift options are LEGO® sets, video games and Silly Bandz®. It seems LEGO® has been around since the dawn of time, continually sculpting young boys’ and girls' imaginations with new and exciting architectural designs. And they never go out of style. They also range in price from very inexpensive to not so cheap, fitting nearly any grandparent’s budget.
Video game products are another Christmas gift staple. Everyone knows guys and girls of all ages love playing video games. So here are a few of this season's most popular and age appropriate: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (Wii®), Just Dance 2 (Wii®) and LEGO Harry Potter (Xbox 360®).
One truly reasonable and fun new product is SillyBandz®. These rubber bracelets are made in many different shapes, including animals, movie and television characters and sports. A pack of 24 bands sells for about five dollars while a pack of 12 goes for around two and a half. Great stocking stuffers!
FOR THE TEENS:
Many grandparents fear shopping for their teenage grandchildren. However, it doesn't have to be a tedious process. In fact, it can be fairly simple. A little secret most grandparents don't know is this age group is typically okay with receiving money—which is great because you can decide how much they deserve. However, if you want to get them something a little more personal, a few good choices are new DVDs, ITunes® gift cards or gift certificates to their favorite places to shop.
This Christmas holiday, don’t let the madness of shopping for grandchildren get the best of you. There are plenty of toys, games and DVDs out there your grandkids will love.
